Where to Get Free Boxes ~ Saving by Recycling

Everyone knows that moving expenses can add up pretty quickly.  From the endless need for packing materials, to hiring those hard working movers, and even possibly having to take time off from work to complete your move, we here at Denver Moving Helpers understand both the stress and financial burden that families and individuals can experience during the moving process.

Which is exactly why we strive to save our clients time and money whenever we possibly can, and hopefully help take some of the stress out of their overall moving experience as well.  One way we are certainly able to do this is by helping our clients secure free boxes for their move, since, aside from hiring the movers themselves, boxes are usually the second most expensive aspect of any move.  A quick search at two of the most common places people buy boxes, Home Depot & Lowes, and one will quickly realize how just 20-25 boxes can cost between $40-$50.

To help eliminate this unnecessary cost, Denver Moving Helpers has compiled a list of great places that are 'prime for the picking' when it comes to finding free boxes for your upcoming move:

1. Craigslist
If you have planned ahead and are not moving at the last minute, then the "free" section of craigslist is by far the best place to find boxes.  Environmentally sound folks like yourself often list their used moving boxes on the website for free in an effort to recycle and help out a neighbor at the same time.  The variety of boxes is great here, as people often list many different sized boxes from small book cartons up to large wardrobe boxes, which can really save some cash.  Listings can be slow however, so this approach could take from a day or two, up to a week or so.

2. Liquor Stores
Liquor stores receive tons of boxes each week and usually don't mind if you ask to take a few, so this a great way to get free boxes quickly!  The boxes will likely be smaller and all the same size, but these boxes are sturdy and are great for books, decor, dishware, and smaller electronics.  Liquor stores are usually swimming in boxes so stop on in and ask a clerk or manager if you can recycle a stack or two!

3. Major Retailers & Grocery Stores
Major retailers and grocers like Walmart, King Soopers, Safeway, Best Buy, Target, Costco, Petsmart, Sam’s Club, and Office Depot burn through boxes like you wouldn't believe.  Just swing around back behind the store, and be sure to use common sense when it comes to safety!
